Rams topped by No. 3 Calgary
CALGARY, Alta. - The University of Regina Rams were defeated by
a score of 47-29 by the No.3-ranked Calgary Dinos on Saturday
afternoon at McMahon Stadium.
Orchestrated by quarterback Erik Glavic, Calgary’s offence
racked up an incredible 719 yards during the contest. Glavic
completed 25 of his 34 passes for 470 yards and two touchdowns
and also ran seven times for 58 yards.
The Rams led by a score of 9-8 after the first quarter, but
Calgary scored three unanswered majors in the second quarter to
take control of the game. The Rams cut the deficit to just 14
following a Perri Scarcelli field goal late in the third
quarter, but could draw no closer.
Running back Anthony Parker also had a big game for the Dinos,
leading all players in both rushing yards (79) and receiving
yards (154). Most of Parker’s reception yardage came after an
85-yard catch-and-run for a major just 36 seconds into the game,
and he also had an eight-yard touchdown run early in the second
quarter.
Regina quarterback Marc Mueller threw for a career-high 384
yards in the loss, completing 26 of his 42 passes and tossing
touchdown strikes to both Brenden Owens and Jordan Sisco. Sisco
had another big game for the Rams, recording nine catches for
176 yards.
Calgary defensive lineman Deji Oduwole had a team-leading 6½
tackles, registered the game’s lone sack, and had a fumble
recovery late in the game. Chase Moore and Geoff Paiement had
interceptions for the Dinos. Thomas Irving led the Rams with 9½
sacks, while Kirby Kezama had an interception and a fumble
recovery.
The loss creates a must-win situation for the Rams in their
regular season finale against Saskatchewan next Friday. To
qualify for the Canada West postseason, Regina must defeat the
Huskies and hope that either Manitoba or Alberta loses next
weekend.
The Rams and the Huskies will square off at 7 p.m. next Friday
at Mosaic Stadium.
