Rams add Larry Mueller to coaching
staff
REGINA, Sask. - University of Regina Rams head coach Frank
McCrystal announced Thursday that Larry Mueller has joined the
team’s staff as a linebackers coach.
Mueller has a long association with the Rams, beginning as a
player for five seasons with the team during its days as a
junior program. He has been heavily involved with the program
since, including serving on the team’s board of directors and as
the president and treasurer of Regina Rams Alumni.
“Larry is a great leader with a great understanding of the
game,” McCrystal said. “He’ll bring a very aggressive mentality
to his group and to the defence as a whole. Larry will be a
tremendous addition to our staff.”
Mueller, who won national championships in both 1980 and 1981 as
a player with the Rams, also has experience in professional
football. He served as the assistant general manager for the
Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1989 to 1992. His coaching resume
includes a five-year stint with Sheldon-Williams Collegiate,
where he served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers
coach and helped guide the Spartans to a provincial championship
in 2006.
“I’m extremely excited to coach at the university level with a
great program,” said Mueller, who graduated from the University
of Regina with a business degree in 1983. “I’m looking forward
to the having the opportunity to coach with several of my former
teammates and I’m confident that it will be a great fit.”
Mueller’s son Marc has spent the previous three seasons with
theRams, including last year as the team’s starting quarterback.
